Homeowner & DIY measuring guide

A simple sketch and a few clear photos help us understand your project. Use this guide to gather preliminary measurements for an estimate—our team must confirm final dimensions before ordering or fabrication.

1. Start with a sketch and a tape measure

Draw a top-down outline of your kitchen or bathroom. Label each wall A, B, C and so on. Record measurements in inches, including fractions. Measure twice and write each dimension beside the matching line.

  • Include your name, project address and contact details.
  • Photograph each wall straight on, plus corners, sinks and appliances.
  • Measure accessible areas only; do not disconnect appliances or plumbing.

2. Measure the room for cabinets

Measure each wall from corner to corner. Then measure each section between corners, doors and windows. Check that the smaller sections add up to the full wall length.

  • Record ceiling height and any soffits, beams or sloped ceilings.
  • Measure door and window widths including trim, their distance from corners, and window-sill height from the floor.
  • Mark sink plumbing, outlets, vents and appliance locations.
  • Provide appliance model numbers and widths; note required door-opening space.
  • For cabinets you plan to keep, record each cabinet’s width, height and depth, excluding handles.

3. Measure kitchen countertops

Sketch each countertop run from above. Record the full length along the back edge and the depth from the wall to the front edge. Break L-shaped and U-shaped tops into rectangles without counting the corners twice.

  • Measure islands and peninsulas separately: length and depth, plus any seating overhang.
  • Mark sink and cooktop locations and provide model numbers or specifications.
  • Identify exposed edges, backsplash lengths and heights, and any waterfall ends.
  • For curved or angled tops, add photos and a sketch; final templates are needed.
  • Optional rough area: length × depth in inches ÷ 144 = square feet. Add the non-overlapping rectangles. Area alone does not determine the price.

4. Measure a bathroom vanity and top

Record the vanity cabinet’s outside width and depth, then measure the countertop separately. Note whether the top meets a wall on the left, right or both sides.

  • Measure countertop length, depth and backsplash height.
  • Mark each sink’s center from one fixed side and note single or double sinks.
  • Include faucet-hole arrangement, sink type and model when known.
  • Photograph nearby door trim, mirrors, outlets and walls that may affect the fit.

5. Send the details for your quote

Share your labeled sketch, dimensions, photos and preferred cabinet style or countertop material. Tell us what stays, what changes and whether you need cabinets, countertops, installation or a combination. Use the inquiry form to start; email your photos and sketch to ElegantKitchen6656@gmail.com.

  • Include the project location and approximate timeline.
  • Tell us about stairs, narrow access or other delivery considerations.
  • Rough measurements support an initial estimate. Final pricing and fabrication depend on confirmed measurements, materials, cutouts, edges and installation details.
